A Long Weekend...

This is what i have been up to this weekend

In the green house. In the tan pots are tomatoes as you can see and Master T's peas. He got the seeds free from school. In the middle tray are hollyhock's and the other tray has rudbekia.

I started working on my raised beds, they are begining to take shape.

Barbecue...

I had two barbecues this weekend.

A barbecue always goes down well with a cold glass of white wine

Free range eggs, wish i had my own chooks. My friend works with someone who lives on a farm and they keep hens and these eggs are from those hens. He was so kind to bring these this afternoon.

I also worked on my flower bed, i even extended it to make room for more flowers.

I am hoping to train the Forsythia in the background. The wheel barrow does help moving things from one place to another.

Just to prove that i did actually do some work, i broke my garden fork. Now i need a new one.

After all the gardening but before the bbq i obviously had to have a shower. The sunshine was a good excuse to expose my legs.

I have enjoyed my long weekend which started on Thursday evening, the previous post has some of the photos i took on Thursday before we went for something to eat. I was off Friday and today.

Most of Saturday was spent at the park and Sunday at the carboot sale.

If it did not involve being outdoors it did not happen this weekend and that includes any house work.
It is getting chilly outside and tomorrow i am back on placement so i best go get some rest.

Enjoy your week.

Sunshine...

Beautiful Tulips...

 ...from my garden

 Abandon boat...

 ...on the beach.

 I loved this tree stump...

... and the trunk.

Rocks leading you into the water.

 One man and his boat.

 The calm before the storm.

The strawberries were delicious, can't wait for more.

Hope you have all enjoyed whatever you have been doing.

Africa Day...

On Tuesday i phoned my mum who was so kind to remind me that it would be Africa day today. When i went home over the Christmas holiday i made sure that i brought a calender back with me to remind me of all the holidays celebrated in Zimbabwe. I was going to organise something with my friends but things happened and i forgot.

Anyway, Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), presently recognized as the Africa Union (AU). The African Union, comprised of 53 member states, has brought together the continent of Africa to collectively address the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.

I am an African, not because I was born in Africa but because Africa is born in me.

Happy Africa day to all Africans around the world.

Hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine and you are making the most of it.

In My Green House

I just thought i would share a picture of my strawberries in the green house.

 Two lovely red strawberries

They might be ready in a couple of days so will look forward to eating them. I hope they are sweet and juicy.

Also in my green house are a few varieties of tomatoes, they are growing very slowly and i think it's due to this weather. Some are doing better than others but i am not very hopeful about having any fruit on any of them, will wait and see. I also have some lettuce which is looking a bit yellow but i am still impressed. I sowed some pumpkin and sweetcorn a month or so ago but there is no sign of life whatsoever. I have resowed the sweetcorn in the house and i will need to buy some pumpkin seeds.

The flowers i started from seed are doing a lot better. My favourites are hollyhock, rudbekia and echinacea. I know they will not flower this year but i hope that when they do they will make my garden beautiful.

Hope you have sunshine wherever you are.

My Treasures...

I have just walked in and i am tired so i won't write much. Just wanted to show you some of the stuff i bought on my treasure hunt these past few weeks.

I bought this beauty for 50 whole pence at the carboot sale.

Pretty floral lining inside. Dirty i know and a bit stained in places. I took off the lining washed it and resewed it back on so.

It is a bit worn out on the outside, when i bought it i was planning on using it in the garden but my friend thought i was losing my mind for even thinking that. What do you think?

These were 50 pence each from Marie Curie...

...and these 50 pence for both at the boot sale.

A Very Good Day...

Do you ever have one of those days that just seem to go very smoothly. I have been feeling a bit fed up with things of late, no motivation whatsoever. Everything i have been doing of late seems to have required a lot of effort on my part. Placement has been a bit boring and i was feeling as if i wasn't giving it my usual 100%. I was not looking forward to today at all, in fact i was dreading it so much i thought i was going to have a very bad day. Surprisingly it turned out to be a very good day for me. Everyone was in a jolly mood, there were smiles all the way through and everyone seemed to be enjoying themself. Today was by far the best day i've had in 3 weeks and nothing major happened. It is surprising how someone elses mood can easily influence you and i have realised that happiness is contagious.

Anyway as you may or may not have noticed i haven't been around of late, things to do, people to see that sort of stuff. I had an exam last week and also had to hand in an assignment the same day so a lot of  some preparation had to happen. Now that the exam and the assignment is out of the way i can concentrate on other aspects of my life that had been forgotten.

The lovely Astra from a journey to a dream sent me this lovely gift for being the first person to comment on her blog.

Hand made bunting

Isn't it lovely. I love it.

She was also kind enough to send me this beautiful hand made rose card.

Forgive the bad piccies, one of the links will take you to the Astra's original bunting post, you will also find the picture tutorial there.

Enjoy whatever you are doing.

May Challenges...

21) Upcycle some of my stuff.
22) Start working on the garden.
23) Spend time with Master T.
24) Organise the house.
25) Relax and catch up on all the movies i have been recording since January.
26) Complete one of the books that i have started reading. Will probably choose the easiest.
27) Use cash only were possible.
28) Meal Plan
29) Start a sealed pot challenge.
30) Explore my academic options.

Some of the challenges listed are from previous months and i haven't been good at keeping up with them so i am trying again. If at first you don't succeed, dust yourself and try again. I am hoping to spend a lot of time in the garden weather permitting. My house always seems a mess no matter how many times i tidy it. I need to put my bookshelf up, i hope this makes a difference because i have a lot of books everywhere. Hopefully i will also be able to create some form of filling system for all my paper work.
